Noisy server

Can anyone recommend a soundproof box I can put my noisy server in. When it was last used on a daily basis it was in a tall cupboard thing in my former office. After a year of grief I have at last managed to recover it, it's a l-o-n-g story, only to find that in a home environment the noise from the fan is driving me nuts. It's a IBM System x3400.

It's got loads of bells and whistles and it was hideously expensive so I don't want to have to bin it but even deaf old me, I can't work with the din:mad:

The problem with a box is heat dissapation...you enclose that server without some kind of external cooling (ie air con) and it's going to go pop regardless.

Sell it minus the HDDs on ebay and buy something smaller and more powerful with the money.

Seriously.

Oh Hong - I finally got to those servers I was talking to you about at the AR - you still interested?

Can't you stick it in the garage or something? I've got a network harddrive that was annoying me so I stuck it in the attic and dropped a network cable down inside the wall and out a blank socket

Yes that's a thought... would be a bit of a long cable run but I spose I could work round it:scratch::scratch:

IBM server, unlikley you can change them as they tend to have custom fittings and pinouts for hotswap capability.

Not so true, there are cases that are used to deaden the sound down though baffling but still provide airflow for a few servers.
These are ubber expensive imo though.
