Buliding a trick SV?
 

Hi all not had a sv for a few years but am going to return to the fold! just recovering from a couple of broken bones after a nasty (hit and run driver!) off from a aprilia rsvr factory! I have decided to forget the 170mph plus superbikes and trick up a sv and get my kicks at a much saner speed!! The general idea is to end up with a trick looking superb handling bike thats fun in the twisties at 100mph rather than 160mph! Any way question is (I know I could search the forums but i would like up to date advice/opinion!) what rear shocks will fit (have heard a 06 zx10 fits in and raises the ride hight) and are there any usd forks (gisxermaybe?) that will fit? Plus what kind of performance improvement would a power commander, can and filter make? Are there any other performance enhancing mods that are worthwile? I am looking a a pointy model and have approx 3.5K of dollar to buy and modify at this stage! any advice is much appriciated! Im 90% convinced that downsizing is a good idea so come on lads help convince me that a sv is the way to go! cheers Bazza

I believe the 06zx10 rear shock is the one as are the forks off a gixxer, i'm not sure as to what model you have to get them off. There are a few project write ups on here that people have done.
Handling is the best way to go ideally as there is only so much you can do to the engine. You can get power out of it for spending money. I have heard that a remap on the ECU is better than running a power commander. The standard air filter is extremely good at flow already and it isn't really necessary to replace with a k & n except for the induction noise. Exhausts, you have a huge choice of cans to choose from.
You could near enough get a new SV650 for that money!!!! You can get a year or 2 old one for that price and use the spare money for the mods.

If it's a pointy then you want to go for a Gixxer rear shock. There are thousands of posts on here about it that should help you out :)

might be worth poking your nose in fast bikes mag every month as they have an sv650s on long term loan and will hopefully adding some trick bits to it over the coming months.
you've not said if your after a 650 or 1000 cc, this would probably make a difference to the mods available.

Thanks for the replies I have just bought a brand new 650s! the deal on it was too good to pass by! Its an 11 plate 0 miles £3950 on the road delivered to my house! Just need to be fit enough to ride it now! plus the dealer will do me a superb deal on a tail tidy, seat hump yoshi can and kn filter and re mapped to suit -£400 fitted! Realy looking forward to life in the reasonably fast lane rather than the outragously fast risking jail and your life lane!
