Read this on the news report just now?

'About seven people are attacked by sharks along South Africa's coastline each year, with an average of 10% resulting in death.'

So thats 0.7 people killed by sharks each year in SA??? :confused:

They said on the news earlier that "the shark flags were out". I presume that's the, "There's some nutter in the water, come and get your dinner Mr Shark" flags then!

The shark had already been sighted and flags were flying before he got into the water according to the reports I read....

Fully agree, last shark I seen didn't have legs or could walk on land, hence it's safer in land if you don't want a shark bite ;)

Annoys me so much the automatic human reaction is to kill/dispose of the shark, WTF, why, what would you do is someone came swanning into you house, they are only acting on instinct.

Actually most shark attacks are as a result of the sharks thinking the human looks like their food and take a taste, when they realise it's not they leave them alone, trouble is if it's a big shark then this normally means loss of limbs at the least.

That's what we (by we I mean biologist, scientists, people who study the sharks etc) think, surmise and ultimately guess at.

Maybe Mr Shark is actually saying "GTFO of my back yard..." and doing the shark equivalent of shaking his fist like Tim Wilky on a rant day...

I mean, are you really going to stop Mr Great White while he swims towards you for an intellectual discussion on it? I think not.

Could be a handy way of getting rid of somebody .
"Now put on this 1 piece furry grey swimsuit , now these half round black goggles with matching nose and whiskers .......... yes dear it is essential to wear flippers on your hands as well as feet ......... and don`t forget to breathe in and as you expel the air you have to make `Arf Arf` noises , now off you go" <--- Wipes Bloodied Fish Heads on back of said swim suit

Another theory is unlike normal prey, humans tend to head for land or have someone to take them out of the situation after the initial bite.

Sharks often hit hard in a devastating first attack, and wait around for the prey to weaken. Normal prey cant escape to land and wont be helped by a friend in the time before the shark returns.

Its likely both. We could dunk him back from an hour to see what happens :smt040
