Joy and Sadness

Big joy last night at Bike Night here in Weston, over the summer, we have raised £10K for the Royal British Legion, we also had nearly 1000 bikes at last nights event, the last Bike Night of 2011.

The sadness came when we realised that our dear friend Wayne had missed the event. Unfortunately while on his way over to Bike Night from Bristol he was involved in an accident. Although he is alive, he has a broken pelvis, broken coccyx, broken wrist and hand. We went to see him this morning in BRI and he looked very ill, he is still in ICU and will be for a couple of days still.

When asked what happened, it seems that while riding over to us, he was dazzled by the sun when pulling away from a junction and hit a traffic island, his bike then hit a car. He is lucky to still be with us. The saddest news for him is that his newly finished stealth Street fighter ZX10R is ruined and unlikely to be rebuilt. It had less than a thousand miles on it since he built it.

Get well soon Wayne.

Carol and I had to pick up the bike today and thankfully our friend Lee came to help which we needed. The bike is mangled, body work smashed and it looks pretty awful. The fuel tank was also leaking which made moving it about a smelly process. Both wheels are badly dented, with the front being totally locked so getting it into our trailer was hard work. The good news though is that surprisingly, quite a lot of the bike's more fragile parts survived unscathed, rebuilding as a streetfighter is a possibility or even back to standard with new forks, wheels, fromt brakes and body work.

As for Wayne, we had some worrying news today, but he is in a good place and is receiving lots of care.

Thank you for the good wishes.
