New Street Fighter Project

Not meaning to bore everyone but I promised to share the wealth and give back by posting about my project bike.

Bought this in the summer last year,
After buying a new bike earlier this year and failing to bring myself to sell Suzy, I have decided to give her some love :)
I have always wanted to raise the bars and make her more comfortable so I bought some bar risers and stripped the front down to remove the yoke.

I borrowed some bars to try the new position out.

Whilst the bike was in this condition I decided to keep going and ended up with this....

And many bags of bolts!

Ooops!

So it's official my wife will not being seeing me very much this winter...

I really fancy a Naked bike, so I am going for a Street Fighter look.

First mission clean everything up.
Then a lick of paint on the engine and a visit to the Powder coating men for the frame, swing arm and wheels.
Then I'll see what happens.... maybe in 6 months time I'll have a bike, maybe it will be a pile of half started jobs....

Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it!

Thanks Jayne.

Still struggling to get it to work with files I uploaded to the forum, used the public folder in my drop box, and that has worked a treat.

Perhaps I should rename this thread, 'HELP, I can't use a computer'..... :)

How lovely would a window clutch cover with red retainers be? ;)

Interested to see how this develops - I'm thinking of doing the same thing either next year or the year after :)

Sorry for the delay in posting.

Been manic at work, but still fiddling with the project.

In fact I took a week off work and spent much of it in the garage.

I'll find sometime over the weekend to update my progress.

Update as promised....

First job was to clean up the engine, started off with a quck hose down and a scrub outside.

http://db.tt/SaUouCUx

Then after a lot of degreaser, scrubbing sanding and general prep I gave it a coat of the ubiquitous halford engine paint.

http://db.tt/RomOSO0b

With the clutch/alternator cover and water pump I took Tams advice and stripped them back and rattle canned them.

http://db.tt/FuPB0N7L

Primer first.

http://db.tt/WSTUEOYb

Then Hammerite spray.

http://db.tt/eacSznYW

I forgot how bad I am at painting with a spray can, preparation, preparation, preparation..... After much nibing back and respraying I ended up with a pass, I think, either way I'll fit them to the bike, if they look bad ill take them off and redo them at a later date!

The frame wheels and a bucket of bits and bobs went off to be powder coated on Monday. Glad I didn't attempt this!

Spent some time cleaning up the starter motor.

http://db.tt/jWvHh52T
http://db.tt/QHIMLMuo

And the exhaust.

http://db.tt/xyD56PsB
http://db.tt/DHSVkFVv

And the chain. Amazing how much crud was living in there, and I thought I kept a clean chain!

http://db.tt/BHt5eDtY

I was going to put the front end back on complete with just a quick polish to the forks as a temporary measure.

http://db.tt/GT9SekXT

Then I decided that whilst it was in bits I'd strip the forks and powder coat them. Think I'll try a mod like new springs whilst I'm here! Suggestions welcome!

Note the custom pillion rail I had made for the wife to feel more secure! My mate calls it the whale tail

I think for that street fighter look you need the usd forks. I love the look of the GSXR front end on a naked SV, not to mention how it will transform the ride

What did you use on the exhaust
