very warm battery, is that normal?
I noticed yesterday morning that my sv was a little reluctant to start, so when I got home in the evening I decided to remove the battery to charge.
I had only done a 15 min ride in traffic, left stood for about 20 mins then took the battery out, but it was really really warm. Now is that just because of the exhaust and normal, or is something wrong? Lee |
Re: very warm battery, is that normal?
Did it smell nasty as well?Best idea is to get a multimeter and check the charging levels.If it is overcharging it will get hot,smell nasty and cook itself.It can also leak acid if it gets really bad.

Sound like the old reg/rect problem, but check charging levels first before replacing it

Re: very warm battery, is that normal?
no smell, but will be testing with a multi meter this weekend I think, no idea how old the battery is, Ive had the bike over 2 and 1/2 years.
The bike has been struggling to start due to not turning over very well, even yesterday when I charged the battery, it took only 15 mins to charge up on trickle charge which seemed strange. |

Re: very warm battery, is that normal?
Thanks, but think Ive found the culprit;
Fully charged battery off the bike is 13.2v Running at tickover without lights is 19.3v, with is 18.9v running at 5K rpm with lights on is 19.3v so I think its fairly likely the voltage regulator is goofed, no wonder the battery was getting warm!!! |
Re: very warm battery, is that normal?
