How does the "pass" lights flasher work?
 

may sound like a daft question but what i mean is does it flick the bulbs onto high beam for a sec or does it simply increase the voltage/resistance in teh circuit?

I have 2 HIDs ready to go on, but they are not hi/low, just single filament types, so i am going to lose the high beam. Now that doesnt really bother me as the HIDs are far brighter on low beam than the normal bulbs on high, but obviously id quite like to retain the flasher function.

Anyone know how the switch works, and what effect it would have on the HIDs? Raining here so dont really want to go pull the bike apart again unless i have to!

it activate the high beam circuit, so you'll lose that as well, I'm guessing you'll not need an MOT anytime soon :smt102

Its an old HID kit i had lying about in the garage from a car.

When i MOT'd the DT all i needed was a sidelight and a main beam, so in terms of not having a flasher and high beam, it should be fine?
Apart from the HIDs in there obviously!

But then id rather see better and risk the fine if im honest!

slightly wrong there, you only need a dipped headlight for normal use as it has to meet the "aim" requirement, the main (high beam) is optional I believe, but what you "get away with" :smt102

Yeah thats what i meant...

Think im gonna try out the new bulbs i've ordered first, if they aint all that then i may chuck the HIDs in and be done with it. Could always rewire the switch i suppose

Any bike over 50cc/capable of more than 30mph must have main and dip beam.

There are some exceptions, but an SV isn't one of them.

really? Would have expected the MOT place to have known that, all they deal with is Bikes! ah well, guess ill stick to new bulbs for now!

Aftermarket HID's that dont have self cleaning and levelling built in are Illegal anyway.

I know that, but they wont fail an MOT so long as the colour, aim and pattern are acceptable. I pretty sure ill just end up buying a hi/low kit, but will see how the bulbs go for now.
