evenin' all,

i was just having a ponder, followed by a failed search,
im currently gathering parts for a streetfighter project for my other Sv and was thinking of the back wheel, the sv only has a skinny little one, i know its the suitable size for the bike, but for a custom jobby i was playing with the idea of fitting a wider one, without a swingarm conversion (cause that's just too much of a job) is there any other wheels.... gixxer or something? being the most common interchangeable part, that fits in the sv

Be interested to see what response you get.

My bike is in the garage alongside my son's CBR 125 R and a Sachs Speedjet. And it's a close call on whose got the bigger tyre on the back.

It's a bit of a concern that on the same width tyre the SV is shoving out 70 BHP and their bikes combined have less grunt than my lawn mower. Which might also explain why she feels skittish.

Let's hope there is a cheap option out there.

Bandit 1200 rear has been done - just needs spacers made I think.

GSXR 06+ also goes on with custom spacers and a bit of machining to the sprocket carrier. I'm sure TWF Racing do a kit for it.

yeah the 180's and 190's are almost the standard tyre size nowadays with big bikes. makes the SV's look like a pencil's width. however it was for the SV so i guess its made for the bike. i have no problems with the handling on mine, only in the wet but i run high tyre pressures and iv got a shoulder, but in the dry i swear i'd go off the edge of a tyre one day soon. interesting how 2 same/similar bikes have such massive differences.


Tam was looking on TWF, thats what gave me the thought :P. but they had no clear answers to it, and i know guys like you, northwind and co. are up on what can and can't be done. might look into it :D can't wait to get started on it

Email Zoran at TWF and see what he's got. I thought he did Bandit spacers too but I don't see them on his site.

Not on the site but still available. Also pre srad gsxr wheels or honda F3 wheel.
06 and up gsxr wheel is just most common now and best option since wheel is light.

I'm gonna look into it, I'll be starting a thread on the project soon, just need to get some parts to get going :)

There's also the option of changing for a custom swing arm. Depends on the look you're after.

I know you can get an arm done by JMC that bolts on and takes an R1 rear (I think 01-03). You just need to know someone who has one for sale so you don't have to pay full whack...nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

If you sort the suspension out the SV is a superb handling bike, the only reason to increase the rear wheel size is asthetics and I suspect you will loose some of the bikes agility.

70bhp through a 160 tyre is easily manageable until late 90's 600cc bikes with 90 - 100bhp used 160's and tyre technology has moved on since then.
