Decent B&B in Ambleside (NOT hostel)

Eyup, putting together a 'home made' experience package in a gift box type thing for my old man. It's along the lines of 'A weekend tour of the Lake District' leaving on the friday and returning on sunday afternoon/evening.

Just looking for advice on a few decent B&B/Hotel type places to stay for the 2 nights. I'd be happy roughing it in the ambleside backpackers hostel but that would be incredibly crap as part of an all inclusive xmas present, and on top of that it'd be nice to have a bit of privacy.

Ideally within short walking distance to the pubs and restaurants.

Further to the above, if anyone wants to recommend any key points to stop off at or roads which must be covered then please feel free to advise - I'm about to go dig out the old hardy bikers route from when YC organised it (2009?) as it took in some mega roads and also stopped at that old slate mine (the struggle? The hardknot pass? The honister pass?)..

Thanks in advance!

Take him to The Britannia Inn in Elterwater for dinner. Proper pub with a big fire, good beer and great local food.

Pete ;)

that's my xmas wrapped up - cheers pete

just searching round for the hardy bikers 2 rideout route from 2009 - seems it wasn't posted public at the time so no record of it... Will give YC a shout but failing that, any recommendations for some technical twisties & conversely, some nice steady sweeping roads with dramatic views?

top banana, cheers big ears!

And cheers diz, yeah I was racking my brain trying to work out where quiff and mandy stayed. Ideally it'd be great to have the choice of ambleside but if the food & beer is upto scratch then then something like the britannia inn at elterwater will be perfectly suitable as well..

Just need to get the route sorted so I can print it out on a big display board, pin photo's at key locations with bits of trivia and timing for food stop-offs and rest breaks etc.

hopefully so - he upgraded from his triumph bonneville 800 something (2006 reg iirc) to a bmw 1150 sports touring type thing earlier this year (think it's a k or an RT? anywho it looks like an 8 year old unmarked police bike) but I've been bikeless til 3 weeks ago so there's a lot of catch up to do. Also, he's the man who's got everything and wants nothing, so I figured it'd be better to give him an experience day type thing.. only all the ones on the market are rubbish and expensive. Cue scissors and pritt stick!
