Rubber grease on brake calipers?

Theres a lot of talk of using red rubber grease when rebuilding brake calipers but where do you use it? I've got some in the sliding pin doodads on the front calipers but do you put a little bit on the piston seals as well or does this mean it could contaminate the brake fluid? or do you just rely on the fluid itself to help the pistons slide against the seals?

Re: RRG on Brake Calipers

Sliding pin doodahs, coat the piston seals before putting them in the caliper and then a smear on the pistons themselves.

I do a 2nd bleed after covering a few miles and you do get some red coloured fluid coming out. Doesn't seem to cause any harm.

Thanks Tam, I'm hoping to get them finished tonight so I can ride again!!!

ISTR the red rubber grease is specifically for the pistons/seals. Use normal grease on the pins etc.

Rubber grease is for... rubber things!

'Normal' grease* will likely damage the boots over the rubbers on the pins making them swell and perish.

*Depends on exactly what sort of grease of course - but if you're not sure - don't.
