SV1000 maybe?
Well, having swapped my 99 curvy for an 03 GSXR, I was force to sell up when I got a job in Milton Keynes as I needed a car for the 720 mile weekly commute.
I'm now working in Newcastle, and all being well I'll be in Edinburgh from April. And that's definitely commutable from Glasgow, so... I'm looking to get back on 2 wheels, and rather than go for something sporty like the gixxer or an r1, I think my money would be better spent on a nice comfy SV. And if I'm doing 90 miles a day, I'm thinking the thou could be a good shout. Firstly, has anybody any thoughts on the thou over the 650? Secondly, has anybody got one for sale in Scotland/Northern England that they'd like to point me in the direction of? I've checked eBay and AT but would buy from a regular on here before I'd buy off either of them. Thanks folks. WB |
Re: SV1000 maybe??
Welcome back! :smt041
The only downside i've heard of the thou is it like to drink! compared to 650. Someone at the GM last year said can be down in the 30's ? Don't know how true this is but worth finding out about. If you are going to commute to Edinburgh and back everyday! Have to tank it every day? Whatever you get, hope to see you out one one of our runs this year, GMV in July? |
Howdy!
I think it'd be about 4 tanks a week on a 650 but I won't have to pay for parking and traffic will be less of an issue for me so happy to do it - there's not much in it compared to running a car in terms of fuel costs. I'll have to find someone who can tell me average miles per tank and cost to fill it on the thou. Quite keen on a thou now I've looked at a few - the dual exhaust looks ace and it looks a decent chunk of metal! |
Re: SV1000 maybe??
And the SV1000Sz, the anniversary model with Gixxer paint job is bloody gorgeous! I would really like one of them.

Re: SV1000 maybe??
not as "wiggly" as the 650 as the weight shows, but the standard suspension is better, not to bad on a constant throttle but as said can be a bit thirsty if you're heavy handed.
Cheers Mark. |
Re: SV1000 maybe??
The little Sv makes an ace commuter bike.
It's fast enough , thin so you can make progress ,easy to.pilot and easy on your pocket. |
Re: SV1000 maybe??
Welcome back
The nearest two Thou's I've spotted is York and Wakefield. If your in Newcastle 650's and Gladuis are breeding in the Dealers |
Re: SV1000 maybe??
There was a nice tl1000s in m&s westgate road last week

If I'm using it for a steady 60-70mph commute, 45 miles each way, I reckon I could have it working alright economy wise. It's the weekend blasts that will leave me weak in the wallet I imagine.
I'd be happy with a pointy 650 but just feel like a thou would be a nice step for me, especially after the gixxer. |
