Any HR bods. After quick advice!!
 

I hope someone can offer some quick advice!! I've recently had to re apply for my job (NHS) along with all others at my level and one above. I am due to find out next Monday whether I'm successful or not. We also had to put down preferences in other areas incase of not getting our first choice. I have just received a call from a lot higher manager offering me a promotion but in a different area. The trouble is that they want an answer within an hour!!! They say that every other position is dependant on whether I accept it not. My main question is: am I within my rights to demand more time? I seriously need to think about it and discuss it with my wife etc. Thanks in advance!

How far are they asking you to move? is it within commuting distance or would involve a move on your part?. If it involves a move then one hour is totally unacceptable.

I don't think you can demand more time mate. I'm pretty sure they're within their rights to make an offer and then retract it whenever they choose. You could even accept it, and then they could retract it afterwards, as far as I know. But I would say play the game, tell them you're seriously considering it, and would like more time.

The positive I would take away from this is, if they're willing to offer you a promotion, then if you don't take it, surely they'd happily leave you in your current role? Can't say any of this with any authority though mate. Good luck.

Do you want the job?If so take it,but dont get railroaded into something you dont want.Thats a recipe for an unhappy life.

Thanks all. Turned it down. Was in a speciality that didn't really interest me, with a bucketload more responsibility for not much mire money. The potential future earnings were quite a bit more, but at least I know I'm a suitable candidate tor other promotions that are mire for me as and when they become available.:)
