Avon Roadrider?
 

Morning All,

I am looking to replace my stock D220 tyres on my 60 SV as they get a terrible review and do not inspire huge amounts of confidence (that could be me tho as a new rider).

I want a tyre that will last 10k as I will mainly be commuting. I saw the Avon Roadrider while hunting around and they get good reviews in the main and seem like they wear very well, and of course are £70 cheaper than Michelin pilot 2's etc...

Has anybody any experience with these tyres on the SV ?

Avon Roadriders are an excellent tyre. However, being of Crossply construction, they're not suitable for use on an SV. Also, I don't think they're available in 160/60 x17.

Stick with Radial tyres.

I did'nt realise that they were not suitable - ok that answers that one then :) - out of interest, what is the difference and why would they not be suitable ?

Can you recommend any other tyres that would suit me ?

Have a gander at the Pirelli Angel ST tyres. They provide excellant grip in any conditions :-)

Can I fly the Dunlop flag? Roadsmarts are pretty good at just about everything.

Seriously Chezza, at this time of year on the road unless you want to go to an extreme performance tyre just about anything that is newish (ie: not ten years old and been stored in the back of the shed), black and round is going to be OK, especially to a new rider.
The difference in performance between modern road tyres will be measured in your head, and your wallet. Good luck.

The difference is in the way the carcass of the tyre is constructed. It's too boring to go into on here :D

As a rule, it's ok to fit radials to a bike that was originally equipped with crossply tyres, i.e. Early Bandit 600's, or 900 Diversions. But not the other way around.
Your insurance company may well use it as an excuse not to cough up in the event of an accident, should they find out the bike has under specification tyres.

As the others have said, there are plenty of suitable tyres available.
I sell more Avon Storm's than anything else. People seem very happy with them.

I use maxis supermax tourers..they are a great tyre and only £140 per set. ;-)
