Who is into Quads?
Can't wait for Thursday night as I'll be off to France to visit the in-laws for 5 days. This will mean a few days of exploring the countryside around my wife's village on literally scores of trails. I'll be on my father-in-laws Yamaha Raptor 250
http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/cro...-39_460x0w.jpg and for the first time on the quad I'll have my little boy on board. :D Though he's ridden around between my knees on the XT600 plenty times before now, this will be the first time I'll have taken him out somewhere legally and over any distance, in this country its private land only until he's old enough to sit on pillion behind me and reach the footpegs. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...4/SNC00294.jpg My wife in tow on what will become my boy's quad when he's old enough, a Chinese 110cc, I think it's this one, but I've not seen it yet http://www.dansmotorcycles.co.uk/for...yang_110cc.JPG My brother in law has the Yamaha Raptor 700cc (mental machine), my niece has something similar to the 110cc above, and this is my nephew on his Suzuki LT50, http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d..._1556364_n.jpg plus a few of my brother-in-laws friends have quads http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d..._2019018_n.jpg So there could be quite a wee procession going on some days. As you can see in France quads are a bit of a craze, everybody has one, but then they have lots of places to ride them! I know Barwell has done some green laning on his Mum's Polaris 400, and where I used to live in Scotland you saw quite a few quads being used as toys on the road, but it occurred to me that for a motorbike forum we don't talk about quads much, and I've never seen one used recreationally when out green laning. They seem to be working farm vehicles only. How many people on here have, or have an interest in, or have bought their kids a quad, and what do you have? |
Re: Who is into Quads?
Id love one, i went quad biking in wales a couple of years back now on honda 450 farm type ones, i was hooked from then on.
I couldnt believe the torque of the things, the course the guy took us on had big steep sided water filled dips that we had to go through, it was awesome. Green laning would be a laugh on a quad for sure, especially the fords etc. |
Re: Who is into Quads?
Would love to try / have a go, really envy you and your family.

Re: Who is into Quads?
Had a team building day riding one and that was fun
There's a few muppets who ride them on the road round here, but I don't see the point in that |

Re: Who is into Quads?
Can you ride a quad on a bike licence or is it a car one? I haven't got a cage licence *Gollum voice* nasty cages ;)

Father-in-law is making noises about bringing the Raptor over when he visits in the summer, because he's bringing the trailer anyway to bring a load of furniture my wife wants which is gathering dust there. It's road registered and insured in France, so I see no reason why it shouldn't be used on the roads and for green laning here. If he does, I'll give you a shout and you'll have to come across and have a go. |

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ons/DG_4022547 It would seem stupid to have a full bike license, but not be allowed to ride a quad. I think the Direct.gov website is really confusing on quads http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ions/DG_180318 Under the agricultural use section - "Using a quad bike as a normal road-going vehicle wouldn’t normally be allowed. Unlike a four-wheel road vehicle like a car, it wouldn’t be able to meet certain construction needs, such as the tyres, braking system and seat belt requirements." |
Re: Who is into Quads?
Sounds like there are rules in place to allow farmers to use the road for their quads, but they're trying to discourage people from using it as their daily commuter! Very grey, by the sounds of it.
It would be quality to have everyone ragging it about on quads though. Say goodbye to traffic jams. |
