Walking sandals?
 

Hi all :smt006,

I'm off to Florida in August and every time we go I end up with sore swollen feet, I've tried trainers, crocs and flipflops none are any good so this year I thought some good supportive walking sandals would do the job, but I don't really know what to look for, can anyone recommend me some or a make of some good ones?

In Florida you have to be careful, as Southern Florida is the only place that Alligators and Crocodiles live side-by-side, but they WILL hurt your feet for sure, as well as any other body part they get their teeth into.

(Well you couldn't be talking about thay awful plastic chavy footware could you?)

Caterpillar make these and I have had a pair for years, get down your local sports shop and have a look.

When I was in high school, people swore by Birkenstock sandals.

I use Merrell, the sole has good grip, the strapping is supportive and they last a fair bit. In hot sun though, sandals will give you odd tan lines on your feet! :D

I got a pair of Lizard's about 10 years ago, and they are still going strong. Very comfortable, awesome sole grip (apparently the same as climbing shoes) and have coped with the beach and sea every summer, despite not being listed as suitable for marine use.

A good outdoor shop should also be able to advise (on what they stock though). Last time I was in Cotswold the guy helping me buy good fitting boots, crusty outdoors type, was wearing sandals and said he did all of his lowland walking in them. He only changed to boots for loose surfaces or high/cold areas.

I only use them at the beach and went low cost in Millets but I can spend most of the day in mine without too much problem.

Mr LPH got some walking Sandals from Clarks about 8 years ago and they are still going strong. Never given him a blister.

That said, he'd advise against tramping through woodland made mostly of holly and when he slipped into a cow pat it all squished between his toes. I nearly burst my spleen I was laughing so much.

Had Timberland sandals for about 6yrs now. Mega comfy and supportive. I like the covered toe variety - stops stubbing the toe and dripping blood everywhere.

Can't comment on the sandals, but have Merrell hiking trainers (is that the right description? Like boots without the ankle support) and a pair of their shoes and they're excellent. MrsDJF swears by Mephisto
