Reinstalling cams?
engine been striped down for refresh.now at the point of putting cams back in.
realise they both go back in with f aligned so if i start with the front cylinder does it hav to be at tdc on the f mark or a full turn round back to the f mark but not on tdc read the manual but just want make sure its right before i do it cheers for any info |
Re: Reinstalling cams?
The Haynes manual explains it, but here's my recollection:
1) Pick a cyliner, any cylinder. 2) Move the crank to the 'F' mark, denoting front cylinder is at TDC 3) Install cams, as per the diagram for that cylinder (they're different), making sure that the clearances are correct, and the cam chain tensioner is installed. 4) Turn the crank through 360 degrees to we're back to 'F' TDC. 5) Install the other head's cams as per the diagram for that cylinder (they're different) in the haynes manual making sure you've put in the cam chain tensioner, clearances are good etc. 6) Turn the crank through 720 degrees and check everything looks good. Make sure when you're turning the crank without the cams in that the cam chains are held taught so they aren't dragged into the gears and get stuck. make sure that if anything feels like it's contacting on the way round, that you check it over. Rotate the engine only the correct direction. For the love of God don't force anything :) HTH Jambo |
