Must be summer, Pointy wouldn't start.

Hey guys. The bike in question is a K6 SV650s. I've had it 18 months, and not had a problem at all. Went out to it this afternoon and it wouldn't start. The fuel pump sounded like it was pumping nothing... but there was fuel in the tank. Brimmed the tank, and the pump started sounding more regular, but the bike still wouldn't start.... after a lot of trying and a few backfires, it started up and ran regularly... no fault lights etc.

When it was parked up 3 days ago (the last time it was out), there was approx half a tank of fuel in it, and it's sat in sunshine since then... my neighbour was suggesting that maybe just the fuel between the pump and the cylinders had vaporised and gone to a better place... plausable?

Hi

It's not impossible, does it have an electronic fuel pump? If so it should be ok, otherwise it may be the cause.

I have a Curvy so my knowledge is limited to that.

Could simply be a bit of crap reducing the fuel from the tank to the engine, which has now become free.

Good luck any way..

Have you tried opening the filler cap and seeing if it hisses? ie a vacuum in the tank. Had this on my GPZ, a blocked ventilation hole in the cap was the culprit.

Hey guys, it does indeed have an electronic fuel pump, which ran to prime the engine as per usual, but sounded as if it were pumping nothing, then after having topped it up, it sounded like it was pumping fuel, but it doesn't really explain where the fuel that would have normally been in the lines went to...

How many litres did you get in it? you say there was fuel in the tank, but the fuel pump is mounted in the bottom of the tank, so doesn't draw right from the bottom. Sounds to me like you were very low on fuel, and with the sunshine on the tank some fuel in the tank itself had evaporated, and you had plain and simple got too low on fuel.

Cheers Ralph, hopefully that was all it was, cos the bike's been absolutely flawless otherwise! :)

BTW - I did once run out of fuel on that bike on the way to Kilted Ginger's house, and afterwards I swore blind the fuel light hadn't come on. It never did it again though so I stopped swearing blind, and just assumed that it was me who had been blind.

I'll check in the morning for you, I believe I got it at about 23k... you'll be lucky if there's 28k on it yet!
