Before I spit the dummy, can I have the org opinion
OK my mother is old and not easiest to get on with.
She fell last weekend and broke her collar bone. But because she is reliant upon a "walker" is now bed bound. She is now in the local hospital. An ex nurse, theatre sister and hospital matron and the staff would even encourage her to foul her bed than find the time to get her out of bed and help her walk to the loo next to her bed. The note above states it needs two to transfer her between her bed and a chair. I disrepair, my wife worked that ward and wants to help her, My daughter works on adjacent ward and is keeping a watch. But at the end of the day I and my family want the best for my mother. When do I say enough is enough. When do I say treat her with respect. I cannot bring her home with me and am reliant on the state to look after someone who has their time in. I need help with her. I am not able to look after her care. But when should I pull the plug when I think the system is failing? Ask yourselves, would you go 12 days without a bath or shower. My mother has been forced to. My wife/daughter all qualified nurses have offered to do the work and told no. |

Re: Before I spit the dummy, can I have the org opinion
If this was a relative of mine i'd be acting on it now as MM said. This is not acceptable.
Ive recently started work as a carer, but if this was happening in my workplace i'd be doing something about it or leaving. |
Re: Before I spit the dummy, can I have the org opinion
i think the ward need a reminder of what are health issues. don't go and speak to the person in charge go straight to your MP and or the minister for health.
that's a bloody disgrace, no wonder super bugs are taking a hold when hospitals have staff like those. gggrrrr things like this make me maaaaaad. |
Re: Before I spit the dummy, can I have the org opinion
Do they have a PALS, Patient Advisory and Liason Servicethere? If they have, complain to them and the Ward Sister, and keep doing so till they listen. There's also the hospital's Control of Infection nurse - if they're leaving her in that state...
Failing that, torch the place. |
Re: Before I spit the dummy, can I have the org opinion
Complain, loudly, frequently and to everyone. Put it in writing copies to everyone you can think of, ward, administrators, any governing body your MP. The more you make people aware of the problem the quicker it would be sorted.

What Mrs DJ Fridge said. 100%.
You shouldnt have waited this long if I'm honest. |
Re: Before I spit the dummy, can I have the org opinion
Act, do something, whatever you're gut instinct tells you. Trust your judgment, you will regret the things you don't do, not the things you do. Even if providing care outside of the hospital seems daunting, put your Mum first.

Re: Before I spit the dummy, can I have the org opinion
My girlfriend is a nurse and tells me the system is crap and will only get worse. Her ward is so under staffed that she simply does not have time to give her patients top quality care. It's breaking her heart and she is in tears most nights.
She works bloody hard but people just keep rolling in and beds are always needed. Her biggest gripe is that the minority of foreign nurses is now becoming the majority. Their training is just as good as the British training but their culture gives a different attitude towards nursing which does not work well. This again is not all foreign nurses, a lot of them are excellent but more and more seem to have a lack of compassion, they don't great the patient with a smile and indulge in small talk. Beside manner is in rapid decline. That may come across racist if you have decided to instantly take offence. I assure you I am not that sort of person, it is just from experience and from my girlfriends experiences. |
