Servicing questions.

I've just got a quote on servicing my sv650, and its come back at £160, which is mad.. Would it make a difference whether i did it myself?

What oil and stuff should i use? :/

Re: Servicing questions.

Castrol power 1, a hi flow oil filter and ngk spark plugs works well on mine

What do you need doing?
Are you capable?
What do you mean 'make a difference'? But the answer is no - if you can do it yourself.
Depending on the work needing doing, that may not be expensive. How much do you get paid?

but what was involved in the service mate. Were they going to do the valves ,brakes ,greasing etc ,or just plugs oil and filters
As for oil...I just use the halfrauds motorsickle oil ,and have had no probs over the last 30,000 miles.Someone will be along in a min to tell me its rubbish

I'm a student so I don't really have a spare £160 :( therefore I would rather buy parts and do it myself.. think it was just oil filters and sparks?

Re: Servicing questions.

Is it a major or minor service, oil filter and plugs,or that plus chain adjustment and lub plus cables check, adjustment and all the other little bits that go with a complete service--------roughly £50 for parts plus a couple of hours labour so £160 is about normal
Obviously if you can do it all yourself and have then tools it is a lot cheaper than using a garage to do it.
