SV650 comfort kit?
 

I've had my SV K6 for about 9 months now and done over 4000 miles on her, but I'm still finding the riding position very uncomfortable, especially low speed riding around town etc. After about 10 minutes of low speed riding I already start to feel my arms, shoulders and back ache. I'm 20, physically fit and 6ft so I shouldn't really be having a problem. I tend to ride with my elbows very slightly bent and sat close to the tank, but if I bend them so my arms are parallel to the floor then I feel like I'm in a full tuck position which I can't keep up for long because then it feels even more uncomfortable.

Anyway, what are my options with renthal bars + risers on a pointy? I'm guessing (it might sound obvious) that the risers make the handlebars higher so you sit on the bike in a more upright position? I've also looked at comfort kits (topyoke.com? somethine like that) and they come up to almost £300 which is a bit steep so really I'm looking at the cheapest, most effective option.

I know there's a few threads on this issue on this forum so I'm going to sift through this forum/the internet for a few hours.

So what are your experiences with these renthal bars/comfort kits etc? Did they make that much of a difference?

Cant really comment much - I don't have any real problems on my K6 Faired, but then again I am of a different build to you.

Have you tried leaning on your arms/wrists less and gripping the tank with your knees instead?

Yeah I've tried that. I've tried taking the weight off my arms by using my back muscles, but it doesn't feel natural, and after 5 mins or so my back is aching even more.

I want to buy the comfort kits but at just under £300 it seems ridiculously pricey. Also afaik they're the only company that sell them = no competition = higher prices? A couple of years ago they did a 25% discount for orgers but I don't think they do it anymore which is a shame.

I'm the same height and have the same comfort (lack of) problems. I found dropping the footpegs with Buell pegs helped a lot and changed my overage position - more weight on seat and less on the knees. Maybe worth a punt at about £30 for a new set.

Thanks, I'll look into that. But it's not my knees that's the problem. I feel my legs are scrunched up a little bit but not to the extent where it's painful. Does it put less pressure on the back, shoulders and arms? Because that's where my problem lies.

A bit as you're sat a little lower. Not as much as raised bars, raised clips-on or different bike :)

I'm 5'11" and this made a surprising difference ~ £160 (clipons + longer brake lines ).

What was making me uncomfortable was sliding forward on the seat and constantly pushing myself back, you can find out if this is your problem by sticking a non slip mat on your saddle, I used Ikea draw liner, made a suprising difference, now looking for a permanent fix.
