Van Insurance

I'm thinking of getting a van for various bike related reasons. The only thing holding me back is the insurance. Now when I learned to drive a car I discovered that my bike experience particularly the NCB counts for nothing, but I've had a car for a little bit now and have a couple of years.

However I want to keep my car. So my question is can I use my car NCB on a van? Can this be on separate policies or does anyone know who would insure both on one policy? I can't be the only one who would have a van and a car for personal use so how do others do it?

You'll be hard pushed to find an insurer that will give you a multicar policy on a car and a van, most wont even touch a van.
I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago, still had a car but then bought a van as well. only way I could do it was set up a new policy with no NCB which was pricey!
You can only use your cars NCB on one policy at a time

NCB's can only exist on one policy at a time, you can't use them on 2 policies at once.

That's why we traded in our last car when we got this one, the cost of insurance with 0 no claims was laughable.

OK how about, you buy it and give it to me. I own it.
I insure it as I am a bit younger than you with a perfick record and the insurance will be cheap and have you as a named driver. You are my gay spouse.
I let you use it all the time except for when I need it for track days.

What d'ya think wifey?

Forgot about that thread, the idea of a van creeps into my mind now and again you see. Just run a quick quote through that Anthony D Evans for Motorcycle carrier cover and it was quite reasonable. Will give them a call tomorrow about it to find out how it all works.

I like what you're thinking. And I like the idea of you insuring it for me even better. Not sure its strictly legal and wouldn't help me build up a NCD though.

Think about how often you need a van (I think I've said this before). If it's a few times a year, just hire one or think about a trailer. It's it's all the time, sell the car. If you've got pots of money then you wouldn't have started this thread.

Talking Squirrel out of an idea is like trying to talk a smack head down. It's not easily done.... reason and a big stick are not enough.
