Riding home in the rain...
 

As some of you who live up north (Newcastle area) may know, yesterday we had some pretty bad flooding. Unfortunately this happened shortly before I finished work so had to ride home through it all. Here is a video of my ride home, or parts of it. Quite a bit more eventful than usual and I'm pretty impressed that I made it home with an SV650 and not the SV325. You'll understand when you watch the video.

No music on the video and my camera seems to have developed a weird noise.

Anyone else end up having to ride through all this?

I remember the great floods of Swindon 2007? Not as long a ride as that but some interesting rivers to cross. Rode either in the center of the road as its higher or on the pavement at a couple of points. My boots were still in the water at that point and I found out later that I passed a mate who's Fiesta didn't make it down the access road to the office.

At one point the bow wave I created came up and over the front fairing and down the neck of my jacket. Nice. I got back to my garage, stuck the bike on a paddock stand, loosened off the chain adjusters and watched the torrent of flood water hit the floor.

Fair play to you, I seen a range rover turn round yesterday for 18 inches of water.

I've got to fit a new starter to my mates car today as we got stuck in a flood and burnt starter out.


Word of advice / warning dunny, be wary about following an emergency vehicles path through traffic, cars that part the way arent expecting a bike/car to be behind it so won't look if they change lanes.
I seen a car of Asian men hit another car head on when they were ambulance chasing and trying to beat traffic.

I guess those Fender Extenders really do work above and beyond what they were designed for.

Though it was a little cheeky following that Police van but it made it easier. ;)

Forgot to bring my clear visor so had to ride back with my visor up most of the time, my own fault though. Took me over an hour to travel 15 miles, wonder how long it took those people stuck in cars?

Well it was enjoyable in a way, a mini adventure. :D

Oh and for anyone who rides in the rain and doesn't want an SV325, buy yourself a fender extender! I'm pretty sure this video proves they work!

That's the best way to filter ;)


The silicon grease around the front plug cap is also recommended, mine refused starting on both after being left overnight in heavy rain.

Was absolutely soaked when I got home so just stuck the SV in the garage and went inside. Started up first time this morning, on both cylinders. Was a bit surprised how deep that water was, wasn't expecting to get a wall of water shoot up above my head and in my face. (probably should have put my visor down before going in)

Some of those gaps were very tight, must have been millimeters to spare either side, but I wasn't going to sit there in the rain with everyone else.

Anyway, all's good now and I have over an hour of footage.
