4k service for £95 - ok?
 

I've booked my 2011 650S in for its 4k service next week at a Suzuki main dealer in Swansea near me - £95 all inclusive. Sounds pretty good to me - I was quoted £135 at another dealer and that involved a 60 mile round trip. Anyone else pay for a small service at a dealer lately - how does cost compare?

Oil & Filter = £25-30

Plugs £15

1hr labour = difference between the two

Sounds like an OK price seeing as you'll get the stamp (as long as they do the work they're supposed to)

No plugs replaced on the 4k service. They assured me it was as the book + an oil filter which is not in the book. I suppose I will have to trust them on this. If something does not need adjusting I won't know if they looked at it. As long as they do what does need doing! They know I have another 2 bikes and may return with more business if I'm pleased.

If you want a stamp in the book then sounds about right but an oil & filter is a 20 min job. Even on an S you don't need to remove the farings so I'd save £60 and do it yourself.

I have very little faith in dealership services. When I brought my SV to the dealer I got it from to service for the first time (didn't want to do it myself as the bike was very new to me) they told me the oil needed changed every 8000miles... Which isn't correct... So I've done it myself every 3500-4000 miles for the last 32k miles.

EDIT: Sorry first time since I bought it at 7899 miles.

I guess there's the warranty to think of if it's still within the period, plus there's the security of someone 'knowing what they're doing' looking over all the other stuff that's supposed to be checked if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.

The 4000m service if done correct isnt just an oil and filter change, alot of owners think it is. The plugs should always be taken out and checked, same with the air filter. Brake fluid and coolant checked and tested (scheduled to be changed at 2 years old or sooner if high moisture content in the brake fluid). Charging check, full chassis check/lube, check clutch adjustment at the pushrod and SDS cleardown on diagnostics etc.

£95 is very reasonable, obviously labour rates and type of oil they use gives a variance on costs.

Yes, I could do the oil and filter but want the other things checked properly (throttle play etc) rather than done badly by me reading the manual! Home servicing is good if you know what you are doing. I like my bike to be safe and reliable so as I know the service deprtment has done a good job on a friend's bike, I will feel confident when riding the bike afterwards. Not all mechanics are rubbish and some home servicing is. No disrespect intended to those of you very handy with a spanner - keep up the good work that I am sure the majority perform on their own bike!
