Just finished major service. Curvy.
 

So I just finished major service on my curvy. New filters, plugs and oil. Also did the fork oil......OMG the old oil absolutely stank and looked much like the water you get down drains. Did coolant aswell good job I planned to coz I had to take the rad off to get to the front plug. Had one mishap and i feel like a complete burk, I fired her up and forgot I had not put the oil filler cap back on, sprayed oil all up my jacket that was hung on the wall.....d'oh.

If anyone is sceptical about ghe difference fresh oil makes in the forks it is a phoenominal difference!

Makes you feel good about yourself doing jobs like that yourself. Wish Id left my forks well alone. Changed the oil and they now have the "standard factory fit" clonk. maybe some things are best left alone :smt093

Mine has those but mine is having a new set of tyres and forks rebuilding soon.

Nothing like the joy of spending some time covered in lube, up to your elbows in the old girl is there? :thumbsup:

I love giving mine a good servicing. Keeps her feeling good and my mechanic always says how well looked after she looks. :smt105

Thought there was more to do on a major service than that,
check valve clearences?
check Head Bearings?
etc....

Think I need to change the oil in my front forks, probably to something heavier as I'm 12 - 13 stone. But am not confident in doing it myself. :(

I put 15w in, i can feel a real difference. I'm 6ft 1in and around 15st.

Its relatively easy if you have the tools to do it.

just got my bike back today from a lad that does race bike for a liveing he did the fork oil in mine , he said it was just like drain water too , also new seals , cleaned carb and balaced them , did valve check and serviced it , rode it 32 mile home and god its a diffrent bike , the front handels so well now , and bike runs so smoth , wish i new how todo it my self , but dont know if i would trust myself butting it all back properly , always bits left when i do flat packs lol ,

Just for reference you don't have to take the rad off to change the front plug. Slacken the top nuts and remove the bottom and pivot it forward, then put a foldable socket (included in your tool kit) into the head, undo with a spanner. Easy peesy

Tried that as I had read it before. Wasn't happening, after 20mins I decided to remove the rad. I was changing coolant anyway and the system was empty.
