Goodridge braided brake lines? Again.
 

Afternoon all,

I'm looking to up the braking power on the 650s as I have little to no faith in the currently spongy (in my opinion) front brakes that come as standard. Everything's newish up front, newish pads, discs done about 3000 miles ago and the brakes were bled not so long ago as well. It's the feel (or lack there of) which bothers me.

I've seen these Goodridge ones, wondering if anyone can speak from experience as to how good they are, I'm also contemplating upgrading the master cylinder to a Brambo one. Let me know

Goodridge or HEL are very good. Either will improve the brake feel.

I've just put some HH pads on the front of my pointy. They feel like they have a bit more bite than my old ones had. The old ones wern't particularly worn, I changed them for similar reasons as you mention above.
Braided lines will probably be next.

I had a brembo 19x20 master cylinder on my old gsx-r... it was brilliant. Felt marginally more powerful but the feel on the braking was alot more precise. I'm on the lookout for one for my new gsx-r. Braided lines will most likely help with the spongey-ness

I assume the 19x20 is universal and will fit this bike as well? Maybe have to make a new bracket for it or something? (I'm very new to all this so sorry if any of these questions seem obvious!)

nah no worries mate, there's different types of master cylinder (18x19, 19x20, 20x19) I can't remember 100% but the ##x## refers to the sweep of the piston inside the master cylinder versus the size of the piston (??? someone correct me on this I'm 99% going to be wrong but in the right ballpark with what I'm getting at) so the 18x19 might offer smooth braking but less power, where as a 20x19 will have sharper braking but with less 'feel' because the travel of the lever is less.

The master cylinder itself should fit your bars no problem. Only other thing you will need is a banjo bolt with a brake light pressure switch built into it otherwise the brake lights won't come on when you brake with the front brake (and I'm 99% certain the thread on the brembo master cylinders is finer than in the standard suzuki master cylinders, so you will need a finer threaded banjo - 1.25 if I remember correctly, versus 1.00 of the normal banjo).

The only reason I know this about the thread is because I got my braided lines from HEL Northern Ireland, and they supplied the banjo bolt with brake light pressure switch, but it wouldn't screw into the brembo master cyclinder (one with 'NEW?' pointing at it - look at the thread on the bolts):

Oh and when you do eventually get a brembo MC with the banjo with pressure switch in it (one pictured above with the wires coming out of it), cover the bit where the wires are soldered into the banjo with loads of electrical grease/vaselline and then wrap in electrical tape or something - mine rusted away after about 2 months and caused a fuse to blow whilst the speedo needle was past the 12'o'clock position = had to dismantle the clocks to put the needle back round the right side all because of a blown fuse. Right bastrad of a job it was!

Well the standard thread or "pitch" as it's also referred to is a 1.00 pitch, whereas the brembo one is 1.25 pitch - rang HEL northern ireland and they posted another one out to me but with the finer thread. Problem solved :)
