Hey guys/girls, I want to change my spark plugs & oil/filter and I am a compete novice at mechinal things like this. Would anyone near Huntingdon be able to help me with this (you talk/point & I do the work). I only have the standard tool kit that came with the bike but been told that should be all I need. Will provideso liquid nector as compensation for time spent!

If you have no luck locally you could combine the work with a ride out and come over here.

Sounds good to me, thanks for the offer. Might not be until near the end of next month now as need to get bits together. Will pm so details can be exchanged.
Thanks again, Paul

Spark plugs: grab HT lead (black rubber thing on top of spark plug) pull off to expose plug, find socket that fits (will be one in tool kit) remove and replace, simples!

Oil filter, google a pic (assuming you are a complete noob) locate and grab hold and unscrew (righty tighty lefty loosey) if you cant do it by hand, stick a screwdriver through it and twist, once off replace, simples.

Don't pull the HT cable. find the solid cover over the plug.and pull that.
Your damage the conducive core in the cable
watch this guy,his got a bit of a clue

Biggest mistakes are, don't over tighten things ,get a toque wrench.
Make sure the old oil filters rubber sealing ring is not stuck to the filters housing the engine.

If you fancy a little rideout I'm about 25 miles from you (near Bedford) and have a garage with a socket set, abba stand, oil filter wrench and a haynes manual...

I assume you want to change the oil as well as the oil filter? I suggest you buy a K&N oil filter (KN-138) - they have a nut on the end so it's much easier to get them on and off.

Thanks everyone, had to put this on hold at the moment. Forgot to budget for the wifes birthday & a holiday but ohh well I'm sure the SV will survive!

Still runs sweet but will probably hold off until the new year now!

Thanks for the offers anyway (also next year we have to have a few run outs!)

Hey Deltron,

I'm close, live in Bedford too (Marston).
I bought a rear paddock stand 2 weeks ago, so completed my first lubing.

I don't have any bike tools yet, so any advice on what tools to buy would be helpful.......I can start saving.

Cheers,
Ayo

Looks like you've plenty of offers, but I'm near Kettering and have a fully equipped garage if you want to bring it over here.
