I do this for a living. I'm a coppersmith in the aerospace industry. We fit out all the airbus range with their hydraulics and ducts. Bend sizes from 1/4" right up to 6.5" and do ally, stainless & titanium.

Handlebars? Maybe. Exhausts? Definatley :)

Shame the company policy bans foreigners (non company work, not non English people)

So I guess you could class me as a professional bender ;)

I want a manual bender but even they are silly money. There's a nice JD Model 32 bender' about £500 including the stand, and then over £200 for each set of dies. I don't have that money, and as someone who has no idea what he's doing and it will rarely get used SWMBO would kill me anyway.

Anyone made a home made version that doesn't require a drill press or casting abilities?

I want to bend 1" bar and box section for things like a roof rack and stuff about the house and garage

We get all our cnc machines from a firm called unison up in north yorks, Scarborough iirc and most of our tooling comes from a company called omni-x who are in the Czech republic which probably keeps it cheap(er). I happen to know our 1/4" mandrels are supplied to us at around £30 a pop! For a bit of turned brass an inch long!!!
Our only hand bending machines are fairly lightweight and wouldn't cope with bending 1" bar or square section, but not much call for that in aircraft :)

But you're right, it's all a bit pricey for occasional home use.

Isn't hydraforming the way to go for zorsts?

Possibly for mass production in the car industry but not really come across it myself.
The local longlife custom stainless steel exhaust place near to me make 'made to order' replacements and those are mandrel bent on an old hydraulic machine that's older than I am, although to be fair the results aren't great they're good enough for a boy racers saxos etc as they only have to last X amount of weeks before the thing's written off.
