Depends on the question they are asking. Answer the question they are asking truthfully or if you have a claim and they discover your inaccuracy they can ( and provably will) use it as an excuse not to pay out.

The question will probably be phrased as " any accidents/ claims in the last x years". There is usually some option to tell them its not related to the policy your renewing. If in doubt ring the insurer and ask them.

They have a database of this sort of information so they probably already know.Best tell them.

+1, and they could use it to wriggle out of any claim you might make in the future, so best declare.

Speak to the car insurer on the phone and tell them about the bike crash. What you will probably find is that it is only other car and van accidents that affect your premium and not bike accidents. This is what my insurer told me the other day when I renewed my car insurance. The guy on the phone checked with his supervisor that bike claims didn't affect car insurance.

So why do they ask me the question then?

Re: declare bike crash on car insurance?

A few years ago I wrote a Corsa off when it turned in front of me. No claim was made (long story but don't use Swinton). So when a couple of years later I insured my first car I thought I'd better tell them about it.

Even though it was on a bike they said it would effect my policy. I asked them to clarify why and was told that anything that happens on one vehicle effects them all. Great I said, I've got 10 years no claims bonus what discount are you going to give me? Oh we can't do anything like that I was told. But then I pointed out that I'd just been told that anything that happens on one effects them all, and I would like something taken into account for me having a license for a extra 10 years as well. After all you can't have it both ways.

The chap on the phone had to go to his supervisor but eventually came back and said that they were happy to ignore the incident on my bike with the Corsa...

Just so they can stick a non-disclosure charge on it if you neglect to tell them anything which they later find out.. Or as another way of wriggling out of paying out if you ever claim I guess.. :smt072
