Side stand switch operation and removal?
 

hi my bike wont start with the side stand down , when in nutral , sure it could be the relay , its a 1999 sv650s , been told to disconnect the wires , as this is a common problem , which two wires do i disconect , and where are they , and do i need to conect them to any thing or just tape them off , thanks for any help

You may need the clutch in to start either way, so it could be the clutch, or side-stand switch.

A safety cut-out switch on your bike is playing up, you have 2 options:

1) Replace the cut-out switch on the side stand/clutch itself with a working item.
2) Cut the wires and connect them together, bypassing the cut out switch.
Note: This means nothing will stop you from riding off with the stand down accidently. It seems unlikely, but that's what the switch is for, it would be nasty if you did manage it, and it's important you make this decision knowing this.

If you look by the side stand there is a push switch facing to the rear, which is pushed in by a tab on the side stand. This is the switch you need to test, then repair, replace, or bypass.

hi if im right , does the sv 650s 1999 the part that could of gone as well could be the indecater relay , im sure i read some where that could be the problem , if it is the switch by the side stand , is it just called side stad safty switch ? thanks again

Cut wires, short curcuit the wires, remove sidestand and ride around just parking against walls, fence posts, etc etc no worries

Your bike starts fine, it's unlikely a relay is at fault. The indicator and ignition circuits are quite separate.

The more I think about this, the less certain I am the side-stand switch is at fault.

If having the side-stand up makes any difference to whether the bike starts in a given circumstance, then the switch must be doing something (working).
You generally need the clutch pulled in to start the bike whatever gear you're in.

There is every chance your bike is operating completely normally from your description.

Can you check through whether you need the clutch in, or sidestand down, and whether both make a difference to starting?

You could of course bypass the pair of them, some people do anyway.

Does your neutral light come on when the bike's in neutral?

It's possible that it's a fault with the neutral switch rather than sidestand switch.

hi thanks , i dont need the clutch in to start bike , wont start in gear , but nutral starts with no clutch , yes the nutral light comes on when its in nutral , bike wont start if side stand is down , soon as you put it up , away it goes , is it just matter of cutting the wires at the swith at the side stand and joining the wires together and tapeing them up , or should it be done near the fuse box , its just anoying when i have to get kitted up and then get on bike , side stand up start bike , wait till its warmed up , then go , be fine , start bike , get ready on bike away , also if im doing any thing to bike have to rest it against a wall if i want it running , thanks for your help

You should replace it, one day while you're stressing and tired because off lack of sleep you will forget it.
