Pointy - high fuel consumption?
What can cause a excessive fuel consumption and if i say excessive i'm talking about 100km on a tank?
She is also running very rich, and as the bike warms up it will pick up to about 4000rpm and doesn't go back to the normal rpm of 1500. When pulling away at a red light she doesn't have a lot of power and remains that the whole way even when coming up to 8000rpm's where the top speed would be at about 100 km/h. There is no FI error codes flashing. Feedback on this would be much appreciated.http://www.svrider.com/forum/images/smilies/grin.gif |
Re: 06 SV650S Headache...
could be a number of things but first thing i would check is the TPS to see if it's burgerd. check the spark plugs. then get a compression test done.

Okay maybe i'm just being slow now but me being a women could you explain what you mean by the TPS being burgerd? |
Re: 06 SV650S Headache...
TPS- Throttle position sensor, its know for them to go once in a while
Here is something Biblo asked a while ago http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...osition+sensor |
Re: 06 SV650S Headache...
A choked air filter or something blocking the air intake would be a prime suspect. Unless the TPS adjustment is way out it wouldn't cause symptoms that bad.

Re: 06 SV650S Headache...
Sounds like the FI is being confused by something as it's displaying symptoms of a stuck choke cable from a carbed bike. I would start with the air filter, followed by TPS and throttle body balancing. Beyond that I'd be paying SpannerMan a visit, but that's a bit of a trip from Pretoria...

Re: Pointy - high fuel consumption?
Thank you everyone for the feedback. This is what we've done so far.
So we've set the TP sensor replaced the air filter and cleaned out the Pair system which was completed carbonised through the head to drill out the carbon. The reed valves were completely clogged, this was quite a job as you need o remove the tappet covers to get to the tubes going to the exhause valves. Replaced the damaged vacuum hose from the front carb to the intake air pressure sensor. The tube between the carb and the vacuum resevior was perrished and cracked through on the bottom. Fuel consumption has increased and not running rough and rich anymore, the only thing we still need to do is set the TPS sensor and the automatic idling speed. |
