Curvy rev counter / speedo can they be split?

I have a curvy SV650, currently on the road but destined for the track. However, I am changing it with a view to retaining all the original bits if I ever was to revert it back.

Anyway, for the track all I want is a rev counter and it would be much more compact than the original rather large dash.
I have read peoples trials and tribulations with aftermarket analogue counters and dont really fancy wasting cash.

I have choices, fit a trailtech or something like an Acumen shift PD8 thing.

It has crossed my mind to buy a cheap second hand SV instrument cluster and cut the plastic thus removing the rev counter and using that in isolation. From photos I've seen speedo and rev counter appear to be separate entities and there doesn't seem to be circuit boards and things in there.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone know why it couldn't be done?

I'm pretty sure you can't do this as the clocks are all mounted to 1 circuit board.
I had a rev counter from a zxr400 on my track bike which worked fine once I'd figured out which 3 wires I needed. I also had an acumen shift light and it was (in my opinion) a waste of time.

Thanks Trudd
I thought there might be a circuit board somewhere.
Is the zxr400 an in line 4? Did you get it to read correctly on the twin?

Yes & yes.
I was sceptical about it working so spliced the zxr clocks in with the SV clocks attached & they both read the same value. Happy days.

Happy days indeed! Food for thought, thanks

Was it from a cluster like this?

The SV650 has separate clocks, the SV650S has a combined cluster.

That said, undamaged SV650 clocks are like rocking horse poo so I might not use one for a track bike :)

Lawman, yes it was like that on eBay but I only had the rev counter & mount. Hardhat Harry had them off me so it might be worth contacting him to see if it still has it.

Jambo, although the unfaired clocks look like separate units they are actually 1 piece on a single circuit board.

Good to know, I'll go and sit I'm the corner :-)

The clocks on my naked curvy are damaged and the chrome tacho cover has been smashed off.

The speedo and tacho are all one unit but as far as I can see only the speedo uses the circuit board the tacho only has a few wires attached and an idiot light.

Not a great picture but heres the back of the curvy S and N clocks so will hopefully answer any questions.
