Curvy SV buying advice?

Good evening all. Joined up because I'm going to look at an SV on Saturday, and just want some advice.

My brother has a fully faired curvy, and I'm going to view a naked curvy. From what I know, it's got around 46,000 miles, has new tyres, and no service history. The guy selling it is a car dealer, and has taken it in PX, so he doesn't know much about it.

So, what should I be looking for. I know the basics, this isn't my first bike, but just want to know of anything I should be aware of, any common faults I should check, and a decent way of going over its condition thoroughly without taking it all apart.

Unfortunately ill be by myself when viewing, so a checklist of what to go over would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and hello to the SV world!

camchain rattle
reg/rec
binding brakes
rust
sticky choke plungers

and at 46k i would be checking for signs of smoke.

Is there an effective way to check the reg/rec without checking volts going through the battery?

Not really, but if you have a multimeter, and the bike has a charging lead attatched you can check it through the lead.
Check the consumables, like chain/sprockets,tyres,brake pads and oil/filters as these add up to a fair bit of money as a proportion of a cheap bikes price.Remember this is an old bike and only pay a price accordingly-----Hundreds rather than thousands.
Can you get someone to go with you?Even if just to be a devils advocat and stop you getting carried away?

Unfortunately not. Ill have the misses, but that's no help in the bike front.

I know what I'm doing really. I've serviced my current bike and replaced certain bits and pieces. I'm just after anything that is SV related to this mileage and age. In an ideal world I'd go two up on the back of my brothers SV and check everything against that.

Take some pictures, lots, post them on here, let everyone see, take pics of all the consumables like that guy said, tyres chain etc. also get a Haynes manual, very, very helpful. Check all the pipes and hoses any breaks and cracks? Rust is a good one too

Well the bike is a bit of a journey away, well enough to be annoying, so I will be buying it on the spot I think. Obviously if things don't look so good, ill walk away, but Im hoping that doesn't happen.

So wont be able to throw up photos of the bike. The ones I've seen are also really dark and horrible, so for all I know it's a minter.

It's in Aldershot. Hampshire. I'm not fussed about someone coming with, it's not my first bike, just wanted to know of anything common I should be looking for.

Joe - I would, but this one is a LOT cheaper
