Curvy won't turn over or start.
Hey everyone,
I'm new to this sort of thing and would really appreciate some help. Right I've had my Sv for about a month now and its been perfect, no issues whatsoever. I went to start my bike yesterday before work and it started first time, like it always has. Then after about five minutes it just cut out! I then of course went to start it again and nothing at all happened! Literally nothing the bike didn't turn over it made no noises. The only thing that worked was the lights, horn and indicators etc. So i left the bike as i had to go to work and came back to it today. I did a bit of research and found other people who had a similar problem. I thought great! Now I have tried everything everyone has suggested. The battery has been fully charged, I've replaced it with a new one, jumped it with the car! Still nothing so i ruled that out. I then tried the killswitch was off and then changed the whole unit to make sure it wasn't faulty of my dads bandit. Nothing! So i tried the clutch killswitch, i cleaned it, i bypassed it. Nothing again -_- ! So the last killswitch being the kickstand i did the same..... you guessed nothing! So i had a look round took it to pieces to look for a loose wire and cleaned everything i could find. That didn't help. I've managed to get it to turn over now but only by jumping the starter solenoid with a screwdriver, so i know its not mechanical. That all works as it should. I am now completely out of ideas and really need help because this is driving me crazy !!! The only thing i can think of is maybe my alarm/ immobiliser is stuck on and stopping it from starting but i don't see how this would happen? Its a Laserline 862 and has never caused me any problems. It turns on and off as it should but of course it has been connected to the wiring loom. And yes it was fitted professionally.Oh i've also checked all the fuses and changed them just incase. Any help would be much appreciated! thank you! I was told it was the solenoid so i bought a new one which came today, fitted it and absolutely nothing happened! I've now completely stripped they alarm out and re-connected everything as i should still no help. I'm now completely lost! Paddy |

Don't take this wrong, but your approach so far has been a bit hit or miss, you need to be more methodical and you need a voltmeter at least or preferably a multimeter, you need to diagnose the fault rather than changing parts until it works.
First check the voltage at the solenoid, between the black-yellow wire, (neutral), and the yellow-green wire, (live). I'm going to bet that you'll get nothing, so check continuity between the bk/ylw and the battery negative terminal, if that checks out then the problem is on the live side, (far more likely - many more bits of wire and switches. Do this then get back to us. This is just the start of a diagnosis - there's quite a way to go yet. |

Check oil maybe ? Mine just didnt start and when it did by really forcing it to start it went crunch.

Re: Curvy won't turn over or start.
Nah he says it spins over ok by shorting it out.
When you turn it over with the pozidrive ignition key does it start or just spin? In most cases like this is is fault of the cut-out relay under the seat or the alarm. +1 to getting a meter, they are only a fiver or so. |

Sid Squid'll sort it out with you but this thread on electrical failure might be handy: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=171416

Re: Curvy won't turn over or start.
might be a long shot but i also have a curvy and for some reason when mine hasnt started a few times its because the HT lead wasnt properly on the spark plug on the front cylinder, dont know how it came loose but since i fiddled with it and with a bit of wd40 its been fine.

Re: Curvy won't turn over or start.
this hapend to me a few years back.
i found the brushes in the starter motor needed changing. you can check the starter motor with a good battery and a set of jump leads. connect the neg - lead to a good earth on the bike. then check the bike's not in gear. and touch the poss + lead to the nut on the starter motor that connects the thick wire from the relay to the starter. mine was dead so i got some brushes from a suzuki dealer and all was well. |
