Side stand cut out?
Hi all im new to bikes , i got myself an sv650s few months bck but im having a problem with it ,,, when side stand is down bike starts but as soon as i take it of stand it cuts out any suggestions

Re: running problems
does it do this when in gear? The bikes have a side stand safety switch.. It will cut out when in gear and the side stand is push up out of the way.
If it's doing it when in neutral there's probably some neutral sensor or gear position indicator which is faulty and causing the bike to think it's in gear when it's not.. |
Re: running problems
hi m8 no the bikes out of gear , it happens if i leave stand down then take weight of the bike it cuts out

Re: running problems
Faulty side-stand switch? My guess is it flexes a bit and something changes. You need a wiring diagram and multimeter!
On the SV1k the side-stand switch and gear position switch are in parallel and provide earths to a soleniod carrying the power supply to the ecu/coils etc. The stand switch is open when the stand is down. The gear position switch is closed when in N. Put it in gear with stand down and they both are open so it cuts out. However, yours can't be like this or the gear switch would earth the solenoid regardless of moving the stand. Unless someone has changed something. |
He said it happens if he picks the bike up without moving the side stand (bike still in neutral and kick stand down I'm guessing?)
If this is true its not the side stand switch i'll bet its the tilt sensor and it's moved. You'll need to trace it back, it cuts the bike out in event of it falling over. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 |
Re: running problems
The stand isn't being folded up, but it certainly does move when you lift your bike off it due to flexing - the tilt switch opens when the bike is leant over not when it's upright. Might be something else entirely like a loose wire rubbing somewhere.
Something is faulty and a multimeter and circuit diagram will show you what it is. You need to check for continuity through the kill switch, side stand switch, gear switch, tilt switch, clutch switch and ignition switch. Simple. Let us know what it was. |

Re: running problems
:colors:cheers guys for all ur thoughts had a lokk at bike this morn and found there was a bit of water in alarm control box , i dried all this out and bike starts and runs no probs
|
Re: running problems
might be worth blasting the alarm control box with WD-40 and working out how the water got in there buddy, it could only get worse in future if it's not sealed off :)
