insurance dig

almost £500 to insure my sv650s TTFT.

what a joke.... got 2 years NCB, IAM test behind me. one accident my fault and clean licence with also a car insured on another policy.

i am also now 24. I know insurance has gone up, but £500 for an sv650. Yes i did shop around and have been doing so since October.

i guesss this is probably the 1000000000th thread about insurance prices.

think it will be a while before i get my dream cbr1000rr fireblade

Re: insurance dig

4 Years no claims, no accidents and only 3 points on my licence, 27years old and the SV650 just cost me £320 for the year.
£500 doesn't sound too terrible by comparison considering you're under 25 and you have the claim.

Its not bad!!

I'm paying close to £700 with 1 years NCB, IAM and a claim in progress.

Don't think that's too bad tbh.

But just to pi$$ you off! 29, 6yrs NCD, no points & 1 claim which wasnt my fault for a ZX6R..... £124 ;)

''One accident my fault"

Was this accident recorded?

If so, there's your answer.

Re: insurance dig

£194 for the sv with an accident that was my fault but settled as non fault so lost all NCD. Now have 3 years on that.

£280 something for the thunderace with another independent 2 year's (same insurer).

I dont know what happens with my NCD if I get rid of a bike. Loose it no doubt..... because after all, the non corrupt insurance industry counts NCD against the vehicle and not the rider. I can totally see the logic in that.

Oh yeah had 3 points as well

Pfft. I've got my FireBlade and RGV both insured for less than that combined. £100 for the SV with all the mods. When I had the wee CB250 last year I added it to the SV policy for £29. I haven't shopped around for years. \\:D/

I'd happily pay £500 to be 24 again though, so the OP's still winning. :D

Re: insurance dig

Rule 1 for cheap insurance. Don't crash/claim

Sadly, the insurance game is statistics and the strange way their risk assessors collate and assess risk and the associated costs.

Due to its low cost and restrictability, the SV is an ideal newbies bike. Unfortunately the newbies learn by their mistakes which probably leads to a higher percentage of SV riders making claims compared against say blade riders. Therefore in insurance industry view the SV rider is probably riskier to insure than say a blade rider.

Annoying is that a non fault claim does count in assessing risk. OK it doesn't effect the NCD, but does load the premium first.

I didn't get that when I first got two cars, but it makes sense when you consider the whole named driver concept. If you get 8 years NCB, you could theoretically insure 100 cars and have 8 years NCD attached to all of them, then have your army of illegitimate offspring driving around as named drivers on all vehicles. While them being named drivers would push up the price, you NCB would drop it on a bunch of vehicles you don't use.

Yeah, it's still a big fat con, but it makes some sense. What doesnt make sense is the fact you lose that NCB if you sell the car and don't insure another, though I believe you have an 18month window to reuse the NCB on another policy before its invalid.

£500 (ish) for TPFT on a multi-bike policy with Swinton. Insuring SV650 and CB500. 3 Years NCB and just turned 21. No advanced riding certificates either. Have been quoted the same to insure a GSXR 750 TPFT.
