Yorkshire Tour de France

I've never watched a full cycling race in my life but am thinking I'll be quite interested in this one! Route now been published. Looks like it's going very close to where I work, huzzah. Anywhere near you?

Its going to be absolutely mental I think.

Every time its been here the crowds have been huge

But it is a grand spectacle, but don't expect to see much of the riders even on the hills, they don't ride that slow.

I'll be there I hope

They're not going to fit many crowds down Kettlewell, the road's only just big enough for the bicycles! lol

Yeah, when they said kettlewell on the news I thought it ain't wide enough for them to bunch up through there.

Still should be a law against them riding two or more abreast, how are cars/trucks and even bikes supposed to get past them?

Do businesses on the route get compensation if customers cannot get in/out etc?

Not everyone is enthused about a bunch of push bikes and their followers.

Roads will be closed with a rolling road closure so this won't be an issue

The local economy will be boosted by all the extra visitors, but obviously there might be some problems, but its a one off never to be repeated event. 14 months to get alternative plans sorted out.

Same happens round here with the much smaller Tour of Britain, and folk embrace it, its a very popular event.

The benefits outweigh the disadvantages, you could always go on holiday Tim ;)

Hmmm I can just imagine a farmer up at Kettlewell etc get a bit enthusiastic with his muck spreading. (I certainly used to when my head teacher bought a house that backed onto our top field) there is a good chance they might just get a tad close to the hedge/wall as they seek to get a good view. hee hee

He'd probably make a nice few quid by letting his wall be used by spectators and or letting his field out for camping folk

Grrh, nobody is biting.

Yeah I know it will be a day to avoid yorkshire . But some of us have spent a lifetime trying to do just that.

You're just jealous because Yorkshire is going to get all the worldwide publicity, attracting more & more visitors to see the wonderful countryside and hospitable folk of the county and spend their money there ;)
