Curvy - Idle revs problem

I'm rubbish at the mechanical side of things, only been riding since October.

Basically, the bike normally idles at about 1500 revs and now after about 30 seconds of the bike running it creeps up to 3000 and stays there.

I can pretty much let the clutch out in first gear and the bike will set off without stalling if on a flat area.

I took a quick video when i got in the other night just to show what happens, it makes my explanation of the problem a bit clearer.

The engine had just been started a second before the video starts. The revs go up after about 30 seconds of the engine running, they only drop again once its in gear and i let the clutch out a little. As soon as i pull it back in the go straight back to 3000ish.

Any help would be appreciated.
Richard

Re: Curvy - Idle revs problem

First post so hi all, site's been a very great help since getting my SV.

Afraid I don't have a solution Richard, but mine ('00 curvy) is doing exactly the same thing, has been for a couple of weeks now (since the beginning of the snowy cold spell I think).

Re-tensioned and lubed the throttle cables to no avail, and it's not the throttle stop. I've just stripped & cleaned the carbs and they seemed fine - the only thing I noticed that could be amiss was the choke plungers, which seemed a bit clogged up with rust & gunky crud. Cleaned them off and they seemed to work ok though.

If anyone's got any advice I too would greatly appreciate it - feeling a bit self-conscious when "idling" at a set of lights in town, and it can't bode well for fuel consumption.

Sounds like a stuck choke perhaps.

i dont know if it makes a difference or not but i can still twist the choke on and it will go to about 4500 revs.

you have tried changing the idle speed...right?

I haven't tried changing anything yet...

Jammy - would that be the throttle stop?

I've tried adjusting mine and it still does it - 3000rpm religiously. Also it doesn't happen until the bike has warmed up, and it'd happen immediately if it was just the idle stop

Re: Curvy - Idle revs problem

thats what i was thinking.

I got a suggestion from another forum that the engine was taking in too much air so it could be a leak in a pipe or the air filter had been dislodged?

Its in the manual, idle speed adjustment screw, its on the left side of the bike in one of the triangular frame holes

rev the bike after each adjustment to get the adjusted idle speed to show (if you dont not much will happen)

Set the tickover speed to about 1100-1250rpm when the engine is fully hot, with the adjuster on the left as described above.

After that does the bike tickover properly when hot? It won't do so when completely cold without the choke - this is normal.
