C42 anti theft code.

Right so read lots and lots on every forum under the sun and still havent resolved my issue.

The bike will work very intermittently by flicking from "off" to "on" until the injectors/pump arm.
If it starts it still shows the error just flashing FI

The ignition has been jumped before due to a burnt connector.

So my question is, as i need the bike back asap, can i just buy a new lock set and solve it straight away?

Re: C42 anti theft

The ignition barrel has a resistor in it that is the 'anti theft' device. If you were to cut the wires to the switch and connect them together - AKA hotwire it - it won't go, as the resistor would not be in series with the appropriate connections. I suspect the C42 code refers to said resistor/connections and is thus, I further suspect, indicative of either a failed or poor connection of the switch contacts and the wiring thereof.
I know that if you don't connect all of the wires in the switch you get a C42 code, so
I think you may find either the tracks on the switch plate, or the wipers are dirty or corroded, or the solder connections onto the switch contact plate are similarly affected.
The switch itself is fitted to the lower end of the lock and can be removed from it quite easily, the various bits are quite durable, so unless there is significant wear to the innards of the switch it should be repairable.

So before I go ahead buying a new unit I should open the bottom and inspect it?

I'm guessing heavy corrosion means replacement but as it still works all be it nearly impossible that there is some life there.

If say I do replace it would this resolve the issue with no messing?

It just so happens that I have a complete lock set (ignition, tank and rear seat) with one key for sale if you decide you need one.

Regards

I would - you'll know soon enough if the possible problems I outlined are the fault you're experiencing.

Assuming the fault lies in the switch - and everything you've so far related very strongly suggests it is - then yes.
