Just up the road from me as I type this, is that. We were on that very same road a week ago to get this photo

Some of it's in a real state, others have recently been re-surfaced. Here's hoping it's not out of action for too long...

I bet the council would still try to worm out of a claim for damaged wheels though.

Looks pretty standard for our roads really. They will come along and pour some tar in it then say its fixed...

Re: A708 washed away near Grey Mare's Tail

From D & G Council today:

Dumfries and Galloway Council has received the appropriate permissions to begin remedial works to the A708. The road is closed because it was scoured by the river over the weekend resulting in a section 500 metres north of the Grey Mare's Tail being washed out completely. Plant, equipment and materials will be on site today (Tuesday 16 April) and work will start as soon as possible after that. The work is expected to take around a week to complete and for the road to be open to traffic. The exact timescale will be clearer once work begins.
In the meantime, there is a diversion in place: A708 to Selkirk, A72 Innerleithen/Peebles/Blythe Bridge, A701 Moffat and reverse direction.
Work is already scheduled for this year to repair and strengthen other sections of the A708 as follows:
  • A708 Hunterheck/Hillend Cottage
  • A708 Craigieburn Bridge
  • A708 Shortwoodend to Roundstonefoot
  • A708 Blackshope to Carrifran
  • A708 Carrifran to Polmoody
  • A708 Swine Cleuchs
  • A708 Polmoody Culvert (culvert replacement)
