CFMoto 650 TR?
Thinking about getting a cheap touring bike for distance motorway stuff and abroad, and someone mentioned the new (cheap!) Chinese bike CFMoto 650 TR
Anyone tried one of these ? If so, whats your opinion ? Looks like a mini Pan, and seems a lot of bike for about 5K brand new . TBH I wasn't thinking about a brand new bike, and 5K is more than I was originally thinking of, but ....... tempting What do you all think ? http://www.wkbikes.com/650cc_motorbikes_wk-650tr.html |
Re: CFMoto 650 TR
For 5k you'll get a decent tourer bike-DL/Pan/Maybe even FJR?

Re: CFMoto 650 TR
Yes, I like the FJR 13 .. thats the sort of thing I was thinking of originally .. can get a 10 year old one for about 3500 - 4500 but 10 years old vs brand new with 2 year warranty ... ? Hmmm ...

Re: CFMoto 650 TR
The bigger picture to look at is how the bike will be to run, service & repair. An FJR will most likely have been looked after, serviced regular, had any foibles repaired and also the parts are widely available.
With a cheap import bike, where is the nearest dealer, source for parts, warranty terms, waiting times for parts, insurance cost etc etc. IMO the total cost of ownership of a cheap import bike is outweighed by the hassle of sourcing parts and after sales support. For instance, the Aprilia RS 125-only based in Italy and used to be a waiting list of 6 weeks for (certain) parts. That a large manufacturer not far away. What's a cheap factory in Korea/China going to be like? |
Re: CFMoto 650 TR?
Coming from someone that has a cheap kymco scooter atm that im working on, i can tell you that most of these imports are pretty poop. Parts are not made to last and just generally are a pain, go with one of the big names especially if your gona be putting in alot of mileage.

Re: CFMoto 650 TR?
I wouldn't touch import rubbish. Wiring will probably fail, because they use of the cheapest wires which are fragile and break, or rust!

Re: CFMoto 650 TR?
BUY CHEAP, BUY TWICE !!!
That bike will depreciate quicker than you can blink, IMO, stay well clear. You'd get a decent triumph sprint or vfr for £4k, those will tour all day long. |

And a guy I know is selling an 02 for about 2k, nice condition apparently so I think your pricing is out. |
Re: CFMoto 650 TR?
You can get a nearly new GSX1250F for that sort of money as well. Not as popular as some of the other sports tourers but all day comfy, sensible insurance, pretty bulletproof, etc...
