long weekend
with some luck i will be having a long weekend away sometime soon. now having never been further than the A832 over to Dornie i would like the more well travelled Ecossers to have a look at my routes and see if there are any points along the way i really should go and have a look at even if it means a detour.
Day1: http://goo.gl/maps/jjNjT Day2: http://goo.gl/maps/2lY4A Day3: http://goo.gl/maps/4LG4g Day4: http://goo.gl/maps/3DC7A (basically the home run) cheers ma dears xx |
Re: long weekend
I went on a coastal trip and did the same roads as you on the day 2 stretch.
Loved it. |
Re: long weekend
Road from Durness south is an absolute peach, doing it for the first time on the bike in 4 weeks time !!1
The road north to Tongue is a very long single track if I remember. We went along it in the car a few yaers ago and seemed to take forevevevevevevver to get back. Enjoy your wee run out. |
Re: long weekend
Loch Naver is worth a look as you pass by at point L

Re: long weekend
Well you've set yourself a test there mate and no mistake. Huge chunks of that are single track (as I know you know) so you'll either need to set off each day at o'crack sparrow fart or ride for a couple of hours between stops. Iron Butt alert!
Having said that, you've got about 20 hours of daylight and 40 years experience to get you through it and there's hardly a spot on the route where you can't stop, have a fag and think "F*ck me, look at that view." Have fun. :-) |
Re: long weekend
most of my sunday runs entail single track pot-hole gravel ridden roads. each sunday i do an average of 300 miles stopping every 30-40 miles for a fag break. i have kept a close eye on my spaznav for the past year and it's telling me that i do an average of 40 miles an hour inc stops yada yada.
yup it'll be fun. i really don't drink much and would rather be on the bike exploring so arriving at my destination each night around 8 should be fine. i'm no iron-butt, but i do like to munch the miles. i have just fixed the dates with my mother-in-law so i had better start getting things booked. lol |
Re: long weekend
So close to the most westerly point in the UK and you haven't included it on your trip.
I am disappointed in you Lance... |

Wow Bib, an expedition and a half! It'll be amazing though. Will you be camping? There's a lovely little campsite at Glenbrittle on Skye (day2), about 9 miles of single track to get to it but a really nice spot with a beach. I'm guessing that's probably already part of your plan though? After this years GM I went on up to Dunvegan, if you carry on past the castle and follow the single track road to the end there's a bit of car parking space and if you want to stretch your legs, about a miles walk along a track there's a coral beach. Can't take the bike down though. Well you could but probably frowned upon ;)
I'm keeping an eye on this, we're heading up to Kinlochbervie in mid July for one of YC's dives and I'll be exploring the roads up there so will be very useful :) |
