Hep my sad and lonely SV
My K8 SV has been sat in the garage for a year since I got my GS. Untaxed, unloved, started up occasionally but not ridden. It's only done 8,000 miles since I got it new, and I've done over 5,000 on the GS since I got that a year ago today.
So now the time has come to get it back on the road. Stage 1 is getting the MOT done this weekend, but what else should I be doing to get it road worthy again after a long stint in the back of the garage? I need it to feel better, at the moment a bumpy bit of road and it feels like I am trying to wrestle with an angry toddler. At under 9 stone I know this may partly be to do with not having it set up for my weight and also the forks probably need some pimping. So OMO, what do you suggest? |
Re: Hep my sad and lonely SV
That wrestling feeling is due to the forks having shi'ite rebound damping and I don't mean a type of arab. What it will need is some proper oil in there to control it a bit.
Back end might also be topping out due to you weighing as much as a decent crap. |
Re: Hep my sad and lonely SV
Ah YC you have such a poetic turn of phrase. :)
I also have a tail tidy and hugger sitting the garage waiting to be fitted. As you can probably tell, I am far better at baking than motorcycle maintenance. |
Re: Hep my sad and lonely SV
Do the fork oil .Ive some kicking about if you want it.Better than the OE water,
Stick a ZX shock on it.Make sure the links free greased up Tyres, check and pump up . The fluids(probly all can do with a change). |
Re: Hep my sad and lonely SV
wind all the adjusters down. e.g. less pre load. your to used to the plushness of the beemer.
get is sparkly and sell it. |
Re: Hep my sad and lonely SV
Sell me your hugger...
That'll make you feel better about your Sv and will most certainly make your bike pass your mot Sent from that magical device in my pocket. |
Re: Hep my sad and lonely SV
Just sell it. If you've not needed it for so long you'll not really need it so let someone else use it rather than it slowly composting away in the garage.

Re: Hep my sad and lonely SV
I don't want to sell it. The only reason I bought the BMW is because after having my achilles operation I needed a bike that was more upright as the SV wasn't comfortable. Now my heal is much better I want to ride the SV again.
