pro's & con's of a female house mate?

My lodger has just moved out after his 6 month contract ended (and he relocated to milton keynes for work)..

I've looked on a few of the flatmate websites at the ads for rooms wanted and the majority of them seem to be women. Talked with a few friends about the prospect of a female housemate and the consensus seems to be it would be a bad idea. I've got my own crappy experiences of living with women (albeit in a relationship dynamic) but so far the list seems to be:

Pro's:
  • The house will smell nice
  • Stereotypically they will be clean & tidy
  • Pyjama party with all her friends
  • …. that's about it

Con's:
  • fighting for the bathroom
  • random dudes in the house
  • girl drama
  • every once in a while the mood will change and no one knows why
  • becoming an emotional counsellor when there's no one else around to listen
  • not being able to raise flatmate-issues without it becoming personal (i.e. too many random dudes in the house - "are you calling me a slut???")
  • girls talk, and any of my dirty dark house habits (like having a sit down wee when I'm drunk) will be passed on at girly giggly conversation time
  • chick flicks.... actually that's a pro, I quite like Gerard Butler..
  • the list goes on

Feel free to chip in with advice or even your own points for the list..

You forgot getting a cheeky perv on them when they get out of the shower and sniffing their dirty underwear ;)

I lived with a friend who is of the female persuasion for 2 years. Only problem was she didn't get on too well with my girlfriend at the time. Otherwise it was really good and I'd happily do it again.

Within a week there will be scented candles and scatter cusions about the place. Not a good idea!

And don't think they will be tidy, I know a lot of girls who are lazy slobs

Uh...I got a male lodger once. You might know him.

In all honesty, you guys can be quite difficult to live with as well, just so you know. The mood thing, that's not just women. In fact, the cons list could be men as well, with little tweaks.

I couldn't live with a woman...I'm too much of a control freak with certain things but I think a man/woman flat share can be great. I did it in London and we had no issues at all. I didn't like all the girls he brought back, but it was none of my business so hey ho.

It's about finding the right person, not the right gender ;)

I've shared houses with 4 different genders and they're all the bloody same.
