Poor idle - Pointy.

ok i have my bike running at 1.5 which is quite high but any lower and its very unsure about itself and feels weak.. changed my spark plugs today because i woke up with only one cylinder working.. changed all sorted now. looked like cheap fake iridiums were being used. but the ends of both are black as the ace of spades! coud this be due to the fact its running so high?

I'm going to assume from your picture you have an SV650S from around 2004.

If so an idle of about 1,500rpm is pretty much as per the book. If the plugs are black it indicates some kind of rich running, it may be worth checking if the new plugs are going the same way. Start with the basics, is the air filter full of sawdust and spiders?

Does the cold start work properly? As in when you start the bike up from cold does it idle faster and then slow down after a sort while to a stable 1,500 rpm?

plugs prob on their way out or incorrect gap.

bike should feel a bit more spirited with the new plugs. set your tickover to 1250rpm.

if it wont tickover clean at 1250rpm then you might need your T/B's balanced or your TPS set.

how bad is 100 miles for 16 pound?

Re: spark plugs and revs

around 40-45MPG depending on fuel price. that's bad for a pointy you should be a minimum of 50mpg ragging the titz out it.

That's about what I get. I've got a bigger rear sprocket and like to keep the revs up/thrash it
