Ignition barrel removal
Was reading the thread about the bike with no keys and didnt want to hijack it.
My 2000 650s has never had a steering lock, it was bust when I bought it (didn`t know at the time!) obviously at some point in its life it has either fallen or was stolen. How easy is it to remove the old barrel and replace? I take it there are security bolts holding it in, can I drill the heads off these to remove it, slide the barrel off and use grips to remove the old bolts? It doesn`t bother me too much but if I want to sell it could become an issue. Cheers |
Re: Ignition barrel removal
You know that security bolts can be undone don't you? They are torx security bolts. Can't remember what size. Just buy a socket torx bit. Then you just unplug the wiring plug behind the headstock, which is a real pain to get to.

I know I've tried this and resorted to removing the yoke, as the bolts are also very soft |
Re: Ignition barrel removal
Nice one cheers, do I need to get a whole new lock set for a 2000 model then?
Been looking on Ebay and they seem to be around £60 |
Re: Ignition barrel removal
Only if you want 1 key to open everything.
I can't remember if you can seperate the ignition from the steering lock, so take your one off first, as this might save buying the lock set, it you can just replace the steering lock? |
