The day when florists, card shops and restaurants all hike their prices up in order to cash in on the poor saps who actually need to be told that they should show their partner how special they are on just one designated day a year, while at the same time making anyone single feel unworthy.

Or am I just an old cynic?

It may be a consumerist thing, but it is also a day when I can tell my beloved that she is not left out. She is loved and she is special, so I did get her a card and a small gift to go with it because any excuse to tell her how much joy she brings to my life is well worth taking. I love my girl so much, I gave her herpes. :smt077

Carol and I celebrate six years together on the 24th of April this year, six years since I handed in my notice at a job that was good, paid a decent wage and I enjoyed so that I could move to a new town in a different county with a girl I had only just met! Such a typical lesbian thing to do, we always move in together on date number two. :smt050

I'm just a single guy who's happy that way, so feel free to tell me I know nothing, but It strikes me that you could probably tell her that on the other 364 days too.

I do indeed, I tell her every day that I love her, that she is my best friend as well as my partner and to be honest I think that this is why we have lasted as a couple. I do not take her for granted, I have not tried to change her into something that she is not. I love her for who she is.

On this day though, why leave her out just because I tell her every day? So a card and a small gift to tell her that I love her is worth it, just like it is when ever else I do it during the year.

What is sad is when this is the only day that people tell their partner that they love them, or they send a card out of obligation.
