Gear lever catches linkage rod.

2 Attachment(s)
Hello there all,

Just quick background info I had a slow moving accident a couple of years back and bent the linkage rod from the gear lever to the gear box (in pictures it is now replaced), in the same accident I also sheared the end of my gear lever, I replaced the gear lever but not the linkage rod, 2 years on and I decided to change it to make shifting that bit easier however from the pictures below you can see that every time that I shift up the lever will catch onto the rod an inevitably bend it :( I currently have allowed maximum extension of the rod meaning the lever is as low as possible and this part solves the problem but I want to get it so the lever doesn't go anywhere near the rod!

Do you guys think that it is the gear lever that needs changing? My bike is a 2003 sv650s 2nd Gen and the part number for the gear lever is 25600-33E00, will the aftermarket products that claim to be 'replacements' for this part be just like the one I have on now or will they fix my problem?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Tom.

Gear lever catches linkage rod!

The rod looks to be straight, thus the lever is bent. Note how the pivot axis and the lever are not true. It isn't an OE part - was it always that shape?

Re: Gear lever catches linkage rod.

I fitted one of these several years back and like yours it was bent, a bit of a squeeze in a vice with a couple of sockets "adjusted" it nicely.
