vfr800 vtec or sprint st 1050?

Hi all,

I should have an optionof getting an 03 vfr800 Grecian with 15k all servicing done including major in excellent condition or an 07 st 1050 with 30k in I think very good condition and service history, ive risen an st but not a vfr yet.

Which would be the best choice? Taking into account reliability fun factor practicality etc etc.

The best choice will be a personal matter. They are both sport touring bikes, with factory fit hard luggage available. They both have 'expensive' services on the valves (if you take them to a dealer). In terms of numbers; tank range & BHP/torque I'm guessing there is not much in it. Comfort will be subjective as will the running costs.

IMO I'd go for the Trumpet.

I've ridden both and If it was me I'd be getting the.................................Blackbird!

However out of the two I'd choose the VFR. VFR handles better, is better built and the luggage is better. The ST is faster in a straight line and has more torque so less gear changing is required. ST will probably be cheaper to run.

If I were to buy a sport tourer though it would be a Blackbird, faster, comfier and handle better than both of those bikes. Only problem is the luggage is aftermarket so doesn't look as good as on the VFR or Sprint but IMO all luggage looks pants anyway.

Surprised you're not considering the K1200S

No contest on looks alone, vfr's ain't gonna win any beauty contests.

Servicing costs a lot higher on the vfr's too, more choice around on the sprints too.
My sprint was faultless, would sit at 100 all day long in comfort, they do need some effort to turn quickly, a sports bike they ain't.

My next bike if I ever get one will be a VFR, not because I don't like the Sprint, its ok.

Just my preference

I've had both, two VFRs - an early VTEC and a later one - and a ST. Preferred the VFR by miles (I also think it looks better, but that's clearly just a personal thing). Never toured long distance on either, so didn't try the luggage options. The ST I had wasn't right, mind you - had a few issues (which Triumph said they couldn't find), so that probably clouds my judgement a bit.

If I had space, and the time to ride it, I'd have a VFR800 in the garage in the blink of an eye.

MICK..
