brake pads

Had the Bike MOT beginning of July and the tester said "Ooh those pads are looking very thin, you'll have to replace those very very soon."
So I bought front and rear pads for the bike.
today I decided... I change those pads and potter around in the garage before work tonight....

On inspection of said.. ."Ooh those pads are looking very thin, you'll have to replace those very very soon." I too a digital vernia to them...
2.76 mm on the front and 2.98 mm on the rears....

So I put them back in since the brand new ones measure 3.5mm !

So I might change them next year !

more money wasted ! :?

Had a similar thing with my car, Vauxhall garage said pads were worn.

Took them to another garage to get them changed, when he took them off there was loads of life left in them!

Too late to take the new ones back, but a lesson learnt. At least I didn't pay stealer prices.

We bought a brand new Skoda from the local dealer, "comes with a free first service" they said. 10,000 miles later goes in for said service and we get a bill for £80 odd. "What's this" I say. Apparently they had to replace the front brake pads and such things are not covered by the "free service". Mind you, they were jolly good pads they put in, when I eventually had to replace them the car had done over 70k......!

Brakes are for wimps!

Might be worth a note to trading standards about them if that's how they operate.

Daughter bought a polo and for peace of mind took it to the main dealers for a service

You need new discs on the front. Oh how much? 70/side plus 2 hours labour. In which case can I have them done under guarantee as according to all this paperwork, you replaced them 5 months ago.

Well they're below spec now. After getting the service manager to back up their mechanic they had to concede a warranty.

Following year they failed it with a damaged wheel and wanted 250 to replace a bent rim. Made her sign a disclaimer that she was removing a car in a dangerous condition. Refused to permit a free retest. 3 belts with a lump hammer to remove the kerb damage and it flew through elsewhere. Lesson learned not to use that stealer again.
