Disabling the ignition retard mechanism? Curvy
Before I try this on my curvy has anyone else done this amazingly simple mod?

Disabling the Ignition Retard Mechanism
Just about every Curvy I've seen, yes.
Does it make a difference? Yes, a bit - don't expect much. It is in there to fiddle the bike around the, then, EU standard noise test, retarding the ignition a dab just clips the power a teeny bit and thus the noise output. You won't be adding anything as such, just not taking it away. |

I have been meaning to do it for ages and spurred by this I have just finished, piece of **** to do.
Will take it for a ride in a bit to see what, if any, improvement it has achieved. Edit: Been for a blast and no real noticeable difference, the bike is full of power anyways (dropped a tooth on the front for extra grunt) so its hard to tell, seemed a bit louder maybe?? However its a free mod and easy to do, as it took 5 minutes then it has got to be worth doing, as said free is good. |

Did you notice much difference when you changed to smaller sprocket?

dont go down on the front go up on the rear. taking teeth from the front sprocket wears the chain quicker and eats the swingarm chain guide.

I went down one on the front and I`m happy with it, there is a noticeable difference in acceleration, saying that the removed sprocket was worn smaller than the 14 tooth!!
Didn't think about going up on the rear, makes sense though. |

for every 1 down on the front you are roughly 2-3 up on the rear. yes it's easier to go down on the front as you can keep the same chain but as i said it will eat the chain quicker and wear the chain guide.

The only thing I noticed after the TRE was disabled was that in 2nd and 3rd at really low revs (3k or maybe even less) it used to chug as you fed the throttle on, but that went away after the mod. Like if you're rolling up to a junction in 2nd and need a long look before you go, that sort of thing. Waste of time really, but easy and free. Better VFM than a Nikko G Pack!
